Transformers Optimus Prime Boys Bike

“Transformer Optimus Prime 18″ bike was a big hit with my grandson, it was very well constructed. Easy to assemble, very sharp design.”

This Official Transformers Movie bicycle offers a BMX-like design and gold and red motif that’s accented with decals of Optimus Prime, leader of the heroic Autobots from the 2007 blockbuster. The bike has 18-inch wheels and comes with a pair of sturdy, removable training wheels, which are intended to assist young riders and ensure maximum safety. A double-guard chain guard prevents dangerous chain interference and wheel jamming for added safety. It also features mag wheels, handlebar decal plate, rear fender, and both a rear coaster brake and a front handbrake. The seat height is adjusted with a quick release seat clamp.

BMX racing to Beijing Olympic games summer, small sport with loyal fanbase rise

December 10, 2008 · Filed Under Bicycle Sport · Comment

With the addition of BMX racing to the Beijing Olympic games this past summer, the small sport with a very loyal fanbase has seen a steady rise in participation across the country much like it had during the early 90’s.

On Sunday, the local fan base will get its fill when the top expert racers from the Midwest will be at the Steelwheels Indoor BMX track in Hobart for the fifth annual Future Pro Challenge.

More than $2,000 worth of cash and prizes are on the line and the intensity at this race gets more insane as the cash prizes keep rising, leading to some rivalries.

For the past two years a team from Ohio has marched into town and walked away with the gold. But 24-year-old Blake Riley of Portage might have something to say about that.

Bike to School - impacts of global warming, Bandung’s senior high school began bicycles to school

December 2, 2008 · Filed Under Bicycle Sport · Comment

In an effort to raise awareness among the youth on how to mitigate the impacts of global warming, 200 students from Bandung’s SMA Taruna Bakti senior high school began riding their bicycles to school.

The students, between 15 and 17 years old, stated their commitment to ride their bikes to school at least once a month before head of the West Java Regional Environment Management Agency (BPLHD) Agus Rahmat at the Taman Pramuka Park on Jl. Martadinata on Oct. 25 after cycling around the city for three hours.

Eleventh grader Bella Mei Ryanni said she had never thought of cycling to school although she kept a bicycle at her house in the Cicaheum area.

Bella was motivated after two of her friends, Sarita Saraswati and Chyndar Naya Putri, returned from the Be the Change training program, a workshop on climate change organized by Oxfam GB Indonesia and Greener Magazine in August of this year. Read more

Bike ride, City parks weighs stripping nudists of bike ride

November 14, 2008 · Filed Under Bicycle Sport, Bike event tour · Comment

Every summer — because not a lot of people would do this in the winter — Daniel Johnson and dozens of others ride naked through Seattle’s streets and a few of its parks.

But while there are many who laugh and point at the bouncing spectacle, there are those who cover their children’s eyes and their own, then complain to the city.

In a proposal that pits the bicyclists’ desire to ride unencumbered against those who don’t want to see all that, Seattle park staffers are proposing a ban on nudity in city parks.

What has led to the proposal is the Seattle Naked Bike Ride, one of a number of worldwide nude rides. Taking a different route every year, the bicyclists circle through much of the city, including the Seattle Center, and have ridden through parks such as Gas Works and Alki.

Children bicycling to Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake, without bike helmets

November 14, 2008 · Filed Under Bicycle Sport, Bike event tour · Comment

Bareheaded children bicycling to Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake can’t say they weren’t warned if they are pulled over starting Monday morning.

Prairie Crossing Principal Brian Greene said safety concerns led to the idea of issuing written “citations” to students without bike helmets. Charter school policy requires students to wear headgear while on a bike.

“I’d rather be proactive than reactive,” Greene said.

Greene said no one at Prairie Crossing will actively seek children without bike helmets Monday and that violators won’t lose school privileges. He said parents were informed about the initiative in a newsletter he sent today.

Sport Bike Polo: Bikes Cycle like Sharks, lithe and predatory - players a ball, a mallet

Brad Vest / P-I
Seattle bike polo players are ready to rumble under Interstate 5 at Northeast 65th Street. The hardcourt version of bike polo started in Seattle and has spread around the Northwest.

The sport is bike polo, the “urban/hardcourt” strain, as opposed to the more sedate variety on grass. All players need is a ball, a mallet — monstered together from a ski pole and PVC pipe, usually — and a

junker bike, often stripped of entangling elements like that pesky second brake and handlebar.

Memphis Cyclists Showed Tremendous Talent on the Bicycle, mission beyond the competition

November 13, 2008 · Filed Under Bicycle Sport, Bike event tour · Comment

Reed set out to create a team of serious cyclists committed to road cycling under the name of a company he co-owned, “Memphis Motorwerks.” He later renamed the team “Marx & Bensdorf” after his real estate company.

“I’m 52 now, but as the sponsor of the team, the stronger riders have to let me stay around,” Reed jokes.

Reed handpicked Memphis cyclists who showed tremendous talent on the bicycle, but he wanted his team to be known for more than winning races. “They have to be a strong rider,” team captain Clark Butcher says about his teammates, “but they also need a strong reputation, a positive reputation, in the cycling community.” Butcher says that Marx & Bensdorf signs riders who earn respect on and off the bike.
