- “It’s very pretty and my daughter really loved it. However, we ended up returning it after one day. The pedal fell off continuously. The manufacturer didn’t make the pedal insert area properly. Instead of spinning, the pedal would unwind itself and fall off. It was annoying at first then became dangerous as the pedal fell off in the middle of riding on the road. The floor model was doing this when we were trying it out at the store. We assumed it was due to over-use from the potential customers. It turns out that the bike parts are all made improperly.” —E. BMX racing to Beijing Olympic games summer, small sport with loyal fanbase rise
With the addition of BMX racing to the Beijing Olympic games this past summer, the small sport with a very loyal fanbase has seen a steady rise in participation across the country much like it had during the early 90’s.
On Sunday, the local fan base will get its fill when the top expert racers from the Midwest will be at the Steelwheels Indoor BMX track in Hobart for the fifth annual Future Pro Challenge.
More than $2,000 worth of cash and prizes are on the line and the intensity at this race gets more insane as the cash prizes keep rising, leading to some rivalries.

BMX Bicycle Kyle Bennett Climb Aboard a Flight
BMX bicycle racing has taken Kyle Bennett all over the world, so it was nothing special when he climbed aboard a flight for China last week.
But it was something special when he got here.
“Once that plane landed and I got off and there’s some camera crews,” Bennett said, his voice trailing off. “It kind of hit me then. This is it.”
This, after all, is the Olympics, something Bennett and his three U.S. teammates have been pointing for since the sport was added to the Games schedule in the summer of 2003.
“I circled [the date] about a month after they announced it,” said Santa Clarita’s Mike Day, winner of the U.S. Olympic trials in June on a track modeled after the Beijing venue. “That’s when I got a coach. I did a lot of things to make this happen.
